Excavation of the Conference Centre Hotel in Nanaimo Begins

IWC Excavation is on site to begin the construction of the new Nanaimo Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Developed by PEG Companies, this hotel will be nine storeys high, with a total of 172 rooms.

IWC is beginning site prep with preliminary earthwork, clearing and grubbing the site, and preparing it for construction. This development is considered key to downtown Nanaimo’s vitality, completing the vision for the downtown Nanaimo core, to boost tourism and commerce at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre located across the street.

The new hotel is expected to help the neighbouring conference centre attract larger conferences, conventions, banquets, and trade shows to the Nanaimo Harbour, bringing value and economic growth back to the downtown area.

There have been previous attempts to build the hotel at this site at earlier dates, but passed deadlines with the city delayed the project.

The Nanaimo Courtyard by Marriott is expected to open in the summer of 2021, and total construction of the hotel is expected to cost $23-million to complete.
